Mama Ngina Waterfront Park set for high-speed internet

Ongoing work at the proposed Mama Ngina Waterfront Project

MOMBASA, KENYA: The Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology will provide high-speed internet for the Mama Ngina Waterfront Project to enhance communication and boost the security of the upgraded facility.

Construction of the Sh460 million Mombasa waterfront project is progressing on schedule with a completion date set for July this year.

ICT and Innovation Principal Secretary, Mr. Jerome Ochieng said the provision of reliable and high-quality internet was critical for the project, which is expected to add to visitor experience to the Port City of Mombasa.

''We intend to provide a conducive technology infrastructure that will enhance communication and visitor experience through sharing of photos and videos while enjoying the beautiful sceneries of the Indian Ocean,'' he said.

He said that with high-quality internet connectivity, the project will provide an ideal platform for the establishment of innovation hubs, cybercafés and also help youth to develop their talents.

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary (CS), Mr. Najib Balala recently conducted the Parliamentary Committee on Sports, Culture, and Tourism where they gave a thumbs up on the progress of the ongoing works.

He told the committee that the project implemented by the Ministry of Tourism and Mombasa County government is going to be a ‘game changer’ that will transform the tourism sector in the coastal city.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM leader, Raila Odinga, Tourism CS, and Governor Hassan Joho launched the project in January 2019.
