Safaricom’s M-Pesa Global selected for GLOMO Awards

M-Pesa Global has been nominated for Global Mobile Awards to be held in Barcelona between February 25 to 28, this year.

The product has been nominated in the Best Mobile Innovation for Commerce category along with Huawei & Schwarz Grupp, Synchronoss, Ubamarket & DMI and Whisbi.

Chief Executive for GSMA, John Hoffman said, “The GLOMOs provide a world stage on which to celebrate the most inspirational and innovative developments across our industry.”

He added, “The awards attract a significant level of high-quality entries, so being nominated today is a great achievement. We wish everyone the very best of luck and we look forward to some exciting announcements at MWC19 Barcelona.”

M-Pesa Global allows one to send and receive money through international money transfer services such as Homeland, Western Union, World Remit and Paypal.

“The fact that it (M-Pesa Global) has been recognized at a global event that is wildly seen as the ‘Oscars’ of the mobile industry is a reflection of how the service has revolutionized the sector,” Safaricom’s Chief Financial Services Officer observed.

The Safaricom product has been in operation for two months now since its launch in November 2018.
