Kenya plans to start operating its first nuclear power plant in 2027, the Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board (KNEB) has said.

The agency, which is domiciled at the Ministry of Energy, said yesterday it was doing groundwork, including putting in place a regulatory framework that will enable the country to pursue nuclear energy.

Chief Executive  Collins Juma said the agency was preparing to start undertaking feasibility studies that would inform specifications and cost of the plant.

A generator could cost as much as Sh600 billion.
