Kabras Sugar seek sweetness against Wanyore in Nakuru

New Kabras Sugar head coach Carlos Katywa.[Washington Onyango,Standard] Defending champions Kabras Sugar are aiming to catch up with leaders KCB and Menengai Oilers when they travel to play wounded Nakuru at Nakuru Athletic Club as the Kenya Cup enters match day six. The sugar millers will return to action after an extended rest when Kenya Rugby Union postponed their tie against Homeboyz last weekend, a time that coach Carlos Katywa is keen to maximise. Kabras have won all their opening matches of the season and sit third on the standings with 19 points, six behind leaders KCB who will play fourth placed Mwamba at Madaraka Grounds which will host a double header. The other match will see Strathmore Leos and Catholic Monks. Speaking to Standard Sports, Katywa said his players have had a good rest and are fresh. "We started the season very well despite missing a number of our players who didn't have enough rest especially coming from their World Cup Repechage assignments in Dubai with Kenya Simbas but we are all good to go," said Katywa. "Now all we need to do is execute our set goals and objectives because we have had enough time to prepare and rectify our past mistakes. Unlike Nakuru who played last week, we got enough rest." Kabras will hand debut to new signing Lameck Ambetsa signed from Masinde Muliro University during the January transfer window as George Nyambua and Dan Sikuta make their first starts of the season. In Nairobi, high flying Menengai Oilers will be seeking to put more pressure on leaders KCB when they face Blak Blad at Kenyatta University Grounds. Oilers who took the Nakuru Derby bragging rights after seeing off Wanyore last weekend will be eyeing a sixth consecutive win of the season. The Menengai Cream sponsored side are currently second and one point behind former champions KCB. In Kakamega, Masinde Muliro University's hunt for a first win of the season continues as they welcome Kenya Harlequin at MMUST Grounds. MMUST are having a nightmare season after losing all their five opening matches and they are sitting at the bottom of the standings staring straight at relegation. The other matches see Homeboyz taking on Mean Machine at Jamhuri Grounds. Meanwhile, World Rugby Sevens fan favourite Alvin 'Buffa' Otieno is happy to be back with Shujaa ahead of the Sydney and Hamilton Sevens legs next week. The former Homeboyz hard hitter said he was looking forward to helping Kemya Sevens turn around their poor form witnessed in the opening legs of the 2022-2023 World Rugby Sevens Series. Otieno has missed the first three tournaments of the season as he was out on a brief stint in Canada, but has been named in the squad that travels to Hamilton Sevens. "It was sad that I could not help out during the first three legs but I am back. My goal is to see the team perform better considering the previous tournaments and I want to do the best that I can to help the team move to a better position," said Otieno. Kenya Sevens will renew their rivalry with Fiji at the Hamilton Sevens.
