A Sh100m bridge across River Orkeriai launched last week by Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku collapsed on Wednesday after heavy rains pounded the area.

The bridge was meant to link central, eastern and southern Kajiado.

The collapse comes days after the Kenya Metrological Department warned of enhanced rainfall in the region, especially along the Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands and the Lake Victoria Basin.

“The peak of the rains is expected to be in the month of April for most regions except over the Coastal Strip where the peak is expected during the month of May,” cautioned the meteorological department.
