How to prolong the life of plastic table mats

By Wangeci Kanyeki | July 7th 2016

Plastic table mats are a fantastic must-haves, especially for those with young children. They are practical, easy to clean and affordable. Here are a few tips to keep them in tip-top condition and prolong their lifespan.

Wipe spills and food from the mats after every meal.

Gently scrap off leftovers and dried food particles using the blunt side of a bread knife careful so as not to cause damage to the mat.

Frequently soak plastic mats in a shallow plastic basin using warm soapy water with a mild detergent. Use this time to wash underneath the mat to prevent mildew and mould stains with gentle circular scotch brite motions.

Rinse with cold water, disinfect your plastic mats in a clean basin.

If all this daily wiping of mats is too much for you, then simply place your mats underneath a large clear plastic table cloth with six inches for overhang. Your table will be protected and mats constantly clean.

Plastic mats are easily available and affordable so replace the mats when they begin to tear at the ends and get a chance to purchase a new mat.
