When looking to relocate their office, Solex Trading Company chose to set up their new business premises in the swanky suburb of Hurlingham. After closing a deal on an entire apartment floor, they contracted the services of Interior Designer Minaiywa Laboso, of Magnum Interiors. The stipulation was she must use bright colours and create an office to which solex would be proud to invite their clients.

The simple, understated colours blend well with the surrounding environment. The building’s architectural features put an emphasis on elements of nature, such as the installation of arched windows that maximize on natural light.

Minaiywa kept it simple by keeping most of the walls white, except for the bright green office, which retained a bold but calming feel. This has created a pristine and productive ambiance by reflecting both sunlight and artificial light. Cherry-red mahogany was used for a high-shine boardroom table and throughout the office black leather and chrome chairs were installed.

They are not only durable, but comfortable, modern and futuristic. Psychedelic paintings in simple frames add a light touch to the room and contrast with the frosted glass wall.

Minaywa explains her design philosophy; "Like any business would like to grow, the colour theme represents growth and productivity.

The accessories are a mix of old and new, showing, stability as well as new fresh approaches to business. The furnishings are light and easy on the eye which will put their clients at ease."

Inside the main office, high-tech fittings such as a hanging plasma TV double-up for both functionality and aesthetics.

Aesthetics

A snazzy square aquarium is relaxing and attractive to look at, not to mention the soothing sound of water it introduces.

The monochromatic striped wallpaper was imported from the UK, and its stripey pattern creates an informal and welcoming air. Minaiywa incorporated a mixture of the old and new, as well as local and imported materials.

"The potted plants were sourced from our local roadside vendors and the metallic gold blinds were from Vitendi in Westlands," she says. The complete offices at Starwood Apartments are a calm, serene environment.
