Teso South MP Mary Emaase [Courtesy] Teso South Member of Parliament, Hon. Mary Emaase, was forced to cut short her speech after being heckled by mourners during a funeral in Busia County. The legislator was captured on camera addressing a calm gathering before chants began. "Siwezi maliza kuongea kama sijaongea mambo ya National sababu mimi ni kiongozi ya national," she began. "Kila mahali, jamii wameanza kujipanga kwa selikali ambayo inakuja. Sisi tumejipanga hatujajipanga?" she asked the mourners, urging the community to prepare for the next election. "Tusipojipanga unajua tutapangua?" she asked a calm crowd, whose mood quickly shifted when she introduced Raila Odinga into her remarks. Assuming the crowd would welcome news from the ODM leader, she added, "Baba amepeana ushauri." "Heeehe, nilikua anataka nilete salamu na pia niwaambie tujipange kwa serikali inayokuja," she concluded, as the crowd continued to heckle and drown out her voice. The video ended with the MP handing Sh10,000 to the bereaved family, while the crowd grew increasingly loud. Despite using a public address system, her voice was barely audible amid the jeers. Netizens did not hold back their comments on the incident. @sub89 opined, "This is a litmus test. The lady knew what she was doing." @tawe added, "Vitu ni different kwa ground" @GilbertMwangi recalled, "Baba aliabiwa na Riggy G he's no longer relevant in current political dispensation akachemka. Sasa ukweli ndio huu asikie." This incident comes amid rising political temperatures ahead of the 2027 general elections. Busia, once a stronghold of Raila Odinga and the ODM party, now appears increasingly divided. Some residents have expressed dissatisfaction with Raila's recent cooperation with President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza government, which many feel has failed to address pressing issues facing ordinary Kenyans.
