Mzalendo Saba Saba Party, associated with the late opposition politician Kenneth Matiba (pictured), is seeking to change its name to Jirani Mzalendo Asili Party of Kenya (J-MAPK).

The party has written to the Registrar of Political Parties Annie Nderitu to effect the change.

In turn, the registrar has invited comments from the public within seven days.

The move to change the name of the party has been effected a year after Matiba's death.

Mzalendo Saba Saba was changed from Ford Asili by Matiba's handlers after he declared he had resigned from politics.

The party slogan has been ‘Mlango Wazi’ (open door), and in the last election it sponsored candidates for various positions in Murang’a County.

Chairman of Mzalendo Saba Saba Party George Mwithi said the leaders resolved to change the party's name.
