Reason why Kenyans might not vote in 2017 elections

During the by elections in Malindi and Kericho two months ago, you must have heard about voter apathy.

The question is what could have been the cause of the much talked voter apathy? Like in the case of Malindi there was a voter turnout of below 50% regardless of the campaigns which lasted for over three months.

Where did the other half go? Why couldn't they vote? For one reason or the other someone did not utilize his/her constitutional right to vote in their preferred candidate.

In my opinion, the main factor that contributes to voter apathy is media's insistence in covering candidates’ personal life and all the garbage that goes with them, as opposed to reporting on what they bring to the table. And also the willingness of the public to accept this as the standard by which the candidate should be judged.

This is just my opinion and we as voters must ponder about solutions to do away with voter apathy. A word to the nonvoters out there “get busy voting or keep busy complaining”.
