The police in Migori are searching for a county employee who has been missing since Sunday.

The family of Patrick Lumumba, a water technician, said the last thing their kin said to then was that he was taking a county government motorbike to the garage but never returned home.

A witness said Lumumbasa was last seen around Soko Mjinga market in Migori town on Sunday evening before he was 'abducted' by four people thought to be police officers.

The witness said a Toyota Probox stopped where Lumumba was and some of its occupants came out and handcuffed him. "They accused him of misusing a government motorcycle," said the witness who did not wish to be named.

Suna East sub-county police commander Esau Ochorokodi said the matter was reported by Lumumba's daughter Cynthia Ngango on Sunday around 8 pm claiming that her father had been abducted by unknown people.

“Police have launched investigations to establish where he is since his mobile phone has been switched off,” said Ochorokodi.

Lumumba's wife, Judy Lumumba, said she received reports of his disappearance from a person who witnessed the alleged abduction.

"My husband had not told me if he had a problem with anyone. So we are not suspecting anyone," Judy said.

She added: "My husband left home after taking lunch saying he was going to the garage. I am worried about his safety. I have no idea where he could be. We fear his disappearance will affect our daughter's process of joining Form One."

Lumumba’s son Brian Onyango said they have not been unable to reach him on phone.

"On Monday, one of my father's friends was called by an unknown person who demanded Sh1 million in exchange for his freedom. The person used my father's phone to call," Onyango said.

“Lumumba is one of our dedicated employees. He was given the motorbike to ease his work. We also know him as one of the elders at Ombo SDA church," said Migori Water and Energy chief officer Fidel Majiwa.
