Migori traces contacts of its Covid-19 patients

Migori County Government is searching possible contacts of the two Covid-19 cases reported in the county.

This comes amidst calls for closure of the Kenyan border with Tanzania.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi on Saturday announced that two cases - a woman and a child in Kuria - had tested positive after entering into the country from neighbouring Tanzania.

On Sunday, Migori Governor Okoth Obado said that the two cases had a history of travelling from Dodoma and Dar es Salaam and had been transferred to the county Covid 19 treatment centre in Nyatike Sub-County.

Migori residents received the news with shock as Isebania, Nyamtiro, Kopanga, and other border posts were deserted as traders and residents remained indoors on Sunday.

“We have dispatched the Migori County emergency response team to Ikerege and Isebania in Kura to trace possible links to the new cases,” said Mr Obado.

“We are not going to take any chances because coronavirus is here with us. Our teams are tracing any possible contacts with the two cases to ensure they are taken to mandatory quarantine,” said.

He said the county had closed its borders with Tanzania, but accused the latter of “taking things for granted”. This, he said, could endanger lives of Kenyans.
