Four sub-county healthcare facilities are set for a major facelift after the county government announced an allocation of Sh40 million for their expansion.

Nyansiongo, Keroka, Ekerenyo and Manga hospitals were allocated Sh10 million each in the current financial year after it emerged that most residents were travelling far to other hospitals outside the county in search of referral services.

The hospitals will receive special equipment including x-ray machines and other diagnostic equipment. Governor John Nyagarama said the county is set to receive medical equipment worth an unspecified amount from the Czech Republic, which will help in upgrading the hospitals. "That is why we want to expand the health facilities to allow for storage and installation of the machines," he said.

Addressing residents at Nyansiongo over the weekend during a funds drive for the facility, Nyagarama said within the next six months, every sub-county hospital will be in a position to provide better services.

Health Chief officer Douglas Bosire said a dialysis machine had been installed at Nyamira County Hospital in readiness to start offering renal services. A CT scan machine has also been procured.
