‘Standard’ worker missing after accident

An employee with The Standard Group Kisumu Bureau has gone missing after he was involved in a road accident in Mumias on Sunday.

Julius Juma’s car collided head-on with a tractor at Ekero Bridge along Mumias-Bungoma road at around 7.30pm.

He worked as a graphic designer at the Kisumu bureau.

Since then he has not been seen and efforts by his family, led by his wife Lesley and colleagues, to trace him have been futile.

Mumias OCPD George Seda said Juma was assisted out of his extensively damaged vehicle by the driver of the tractor moments after the accident.

“Witnesses said he talked to the driver of the tractor at the bridge and walked away as police tried to clear traffic jam caused by the accident. Our search for him for the last four days has been fruitless,” said Mr Seda.

The family and colleagues mounted a search for Juma whose mobile phone has since been switched off.

“We have visited all hospitals and mortuaries in search of him in vain,” said Lesley, accompanied by her brother-in-law Fidel Juma.

She recalled: “The last time we talked with Juma was on Saturday at around 8pm and he later sent me money on Mpesa at 9.30pm.”

“Juma called early in the morning on Saturday and we talked over some issues I had with him before he left for Mumias for a football match,” said Regional Editor Evelyn Kwamboka.
