Sh52 million set aside for Nyandarua roads

The County has launched the second phase of the roads maintenance programme to rehabilitate some 89km of feeder roads in the next two months.

The roads, mostly feeder roads in Kinangop, Kipi and Ndaragwa regions, have been destroyed following heavy rains.

The county has set aside Sh52 million for the programme.

The first phase that was implemented last year at a cost of Sh100 million saw some 156km of rural feeder roads done.

Speaking while inspecting roads in Ndaru Constituency, county executive in charge of Transport and roads, Ndung’u Wangenye described the programme as a turning point in road construction in the county.

“Under this programme, which we started in the last financial year, covering 156km - 70 of them gravelled - we have saved more than 40 per cent of the total project costs, which hitherto went to overhead costs,” said Mr Wangenye.

He announced that the programme would be spread in 14 wards. The first road to benefit will be General China, which connects Gichigirira and Michore villages in Wanjohi Ward.

“As part of this new approach to development, we are also measuring results through fuel capitation per work done. Each road section has a calculated cost, including fuel consumption, to cut wastage, which affects performance and value for money in public projects,” he said.
