Mudavadi calls for independent audit of IFMIS.

Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has called for an urgent independent forensic audit of the Integrated Financial Management and Information System (IFMIS) system.

IFMIS is the public electronic procurement system that provides an end-to-end platform intended to enhance accountability among suppliers and Government expenditures.

“Our faith in this system is heavily shaken. If this system is turning out to be a siphon for stealing public funds, then it must be discontinued,” Mr Mudavadi said.

He called for the suspension of the system until public confidence in it is restored.

He said he is concerned about the National Treasury’s admission that there have been 'a computer error’ in the IFMIS.

“Kenyans have woken up to the news that IFMIS erroneously misallocated Sh10 billion to a number of county governments. The funds are not only shown as allocated, they are also reflected as disbursed and spent,” Mudavadi said.

Even more worrying, Mudavadi said, is the fact the funds have been shown as spent on budget lines that fall completely outside the ambit of counties.

“It is instructive that the truth has only come out after the Auditor General Edward Ouko raised these concerns and they have formed part of the Senate queries to the concerned county governments,” he said.
