Tough month awaits Kenyans as fuel price shoots in new ERC review

Kenyans are facing for a tough month as they will have to dig deeper into the pockets, following the increase of fuel prices set to take effect on Monday, April 15.

The Energy Regulatory Commission on Sunday evening announced price hike on fuel products, noting that the changes have been influenced by adjustments in price of the commodity in the global market.

According to the ERC’s fuel price review, the price of super petrol will climb by Sh5.25 per litre, diesel by Sh5.52 per litre and kerosene by Sh2.76 per litre.

While explaining the major factors prompting the hike in fuel prices, the ERC notes:

“Changes in this month’s prices have been as a consequence of the average landed cost of imported Super Petrol increasing by 9.14% from US$ 568.55 per ton in February 2019 to US$ 620.54 per ton in March 2019.”

Mombasa will enjoy the lowest prices with super petrol set to retail at Sh10.98 per litre, diesel at Sh99.51 and kerosene at Sh99.60. This represents small margin compared to Nairobi where motorists will buy super petrol at Sh106.60, diesel at Sh102.13 and kerosene Sh102.22.

In the lakeside city Kisumu, the commodity will retail at Sh108.55 for super petrol, Sh104.08 for diesel and Sh102.22 for kerosene.
