Bank guard still missing two days after robbery

MURANGA, KENYA: Police have launched a manhunt for a bank guard who went missing after robbery at Kangari Equity Bank on Saturday night.

The detectives backed by flying squad officers were on Monday reported to be analyzing https://cdn.standardmedia.co.ke/images obtained from the CCTV cameras as search for the missing guard mounted.

They combed counties of Nairobi, Murang'a and Kiambu in search of the G4S guard who went missing immediately after the robbery at the Kangari Branch which was noticed at the Equity Bank headquarters after they failed to trace it online.

In a twist of events, the guard's wife is said to have moved to Kangari Police Post to report the missing of her spouse after he failed to return home after night duty.

The bank's alarm system was reportedly dismantled and the gang accessed the bank between 9.30 pm and 2.30 am after using a gas cylinder to break into the strong room.

The key used to open the rear door of the bank were found by the detectives inside the bank.

Murang'a acting police commander Mr Johnstone Limo said the bank was yet to disclose the actual amount that was stolen after the gang used the rear door to access the strong room.

"Equity bank officials were reconciling details to help establish the actual amount of money that was stolen during the Saturday night robbery," said Limo.

Three bank employees had been reported to be serving suspension over undisclosed matters at the branch.

Initial information obtained revealed that the gang could have taken away Sh600,000 from the facility during the raid.
