Shippers council strategy targets transportation cost

NAIROBI, KENYA: The Shippers Council of East Africa has embarked on a four year strategy (2016 – 2020) seeking to mobilise revenue for the body’s advocacy work and for sustainability.

The strategy is to enhance stakeholder value through advocating for improved efficiency in the logistics chain and reduction in the cost of transportation. Siginon Group Managing Director Meshack Kipturgo said the strategy is meant to increase the competitiveness of shippers and re-engineer the council’s business processes enabling it to meet stakeholder’s expectations while developing sufficient human capital to fulfill its mandate. 

He was speaking on his re-election as a board member on the Shippers Council of East Africa (SCEA) for a period of three years.

While acknowledging his re-election, the Siginon boss noted that “The logistics industry plays a critical role towards nurturing international trade and contributing towards the growth of Kenya’s economy. The shippers’ council has greatly contributed to the positive business environment for importers, exporters and the relevant logistics service providers and I am delighted to serve another term in office”.

The election also included appointment of Munir Thabit (Grain Industries Ltd, representing the Grain sector)  Joyce Gathigi (Unilever, representing the manufacturing sector), Phyllis Wakiaga (Kenya Association of Manufacturers  Secretariat),  Genesio Mugo ( Vivo Energy, rep Petroleum Sector), Kassim Mohamed ( Bamburi Cement,  representing the Cement Sector) Edward Mudibo ( representing EATTA Secretariat), Hasit Shah ( Sunripe Ltd, representing the Horticultural sector) Auni Bhaiji ( Bollore Transport & Logistics), representing the  Clearing &Forwarding sector) and Vanessa Evans Rongai Workshop & Transpot, representing the transport sector).
