A year after the successful introduction of Hino commercial vehicles in the country, Toyota Kenya has announced a model extension to include Hino 300 series targeted at the lucrative 33 and 37-seater bus and light duty trucks segment.
The firm’s Chairman Dennis Awori said the Hino would up the ante in Kenya’s hotly-contested Manyanga bus and light-duty truck market, with the new 300 Series ultra-efficient models unveiled yesterday at the Hino Kenya Showroom off Mombasa Road.
Hino 300 series is especially configured to traverse intra-city routes for quick deliveries for businesses and schools.
“The automotive industry particularly the commercial segment has a strong multiplier effect and is capable of being the driver of economic growth,” he said.
Model extension
The Hino 300 Series, dubbed ‘the Ninja’ will be assembled at the Associated Vehicle Assemblers in Mombasa. Hino has been assembling an average of 40 units per month, a number that has been doubled by the model extension.
Awori said the firm is in discussions with the National Youth Service (NYS) Engineering Institute to supply it with leaf springs and U-bolts among other parts in the short-term for the Hino Ninja. In future, they hope to deepen the cooperation to produce bodies, glass, seats and other components.
Speaking during the Hino 300 Series unveiling ceremony NYS Director General Nelson Githinji said as the country works towards Vision 2030 goals, State agencies would provide willing private sector players with the administrative framework to contribute towards equipping youth with skills and resources necessary for them to fully play their role.
