Former police officer arrested for impersonating KRA staff

A former police officer is among five people arrested for impersonating Kenya Revenue officers and staff in Narok town on Tuesday night.

Davies Musundi, currently on interdiction over a previous case of impersonation of Kenya Revenue Officer was arrested in Narok Town. Musundi was arrested alongside Thomas Mwangi Kinyanjui, Leah Wanjiku, David Chege and Ann Wagio Kamando.

Musundi is currently facing three other separate cases of impersonation in Nakuru, and Milimani Law Courts.

The five, it is alleged were claiming to be on routine tax compliance checks and accused Narok Town traders of failure to issue Electronic Tax Registers (ETR) and selling excisable goods with fake excise stamps.

Confirming the arrests, Narok Central OCPD Fred Shiundu and Narok Central Directorate of Criminal Investigations Reuben Onjoka said the team illegally issued fake seizure notices to intimidate the traders into paying bribes.

Some of the traders alerted Narok Police who immediately dispatched a team of DCI officers who tracked the gang to Ololunga trading centre and arrested them.

"We believe many residents have fallen victims of this fraud and we want to thank those who alerted the police of the matter and caution them against dealing with people they do not know or those operating at odd hours on behalf of the government," said Shiundu.
