The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Director General John Waweru has proceeded on compulsory leave.

In a letter seen by the Standard, Waweru will now be replaced by Wildlife secretary Dr Erustus Kanga in an acting capacity.

The changes will take place with immediate effect.

Relevant stakeholders at KWS have been asked to cooperate with Kanga as he takes up the role.

"All officers in-charge are required to ensure continuity of normal operations and accord the incoming Director General necessary support," reads the letter.

Waweru has been the Kenya Wildlife Service Director General since his appointment to the position on March 13, 2019.
