Investigators in Machakos are holding two suspects including a police officer over alleged involvement in a robbery incident.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kevin Sila a police officer and his co-accused David Muringu, accosted two Machakos University students in the wee hours of Monday morning.

Reports indicate that the two students were on their way to the rented quarters. It remains unclear where they were coming from.

The duo is currently being held at Machakos Police Station pending arraignment on robbery with violence charges.

According to the DCI, the suspects were riding a motorcycle of registration number KMTE 363W before they flagged down the students.

"His roommate however managed to escape the attack narrowly and took flight screaming, attracting neighbours who also happened to be students from the university. The students responded to the distress calls and rescued their fellow comrade from the wrath of the officer and his accomplice," DCI said on their Twitter platform.

Sila attempted to flee after returning the stolen phone, but it was too late as his colleagues from Machakos police station had arrived and they were apprehended.
