Well-wishers can now donate money to help drought victims using the paybill number 880990 and their name as the account, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said.

Gachagua made the announcement on his official Twitter account on Monday, November 28.

This came days after the Deputy President launched the National Steering Committee on Drought Response which is tasked with collecting the contributions and distributing to beneficiaries in different parts of the country.

Gachagua says that mobile subscribers from various telecommunication companies will be able to use the paybill number.

On Friday, November 25, Gachagua said that officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) had already offered to surrender their one-day salary that would be channeled to the drought-relief kitty.

He added that the National Youth Service (NYS) had also pledged contribution to the famine mitigation programme.

"We appeal to Kenyans of good will to contribute a percentage of their salaries to a PayBill Number that will be established soon by this National Steering Committee on Drought Response," Gachagua had requested.

Further, the DP urged Kenyans in food-secure counties to channel their food donations through their respective governors and county commissioners.
