Governor Sonko earmarks businessman Maina’s hotel parking for demolition

Nairobi City County earmarks Marble Arch Hotel parking lot for demolition.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has made good his threats by earmarking Marble Arch Hotel parking lot for demolition.

On Thursday evening, the governor brought down public toilets owned by city businessman Mike Maina.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko blamed businessman Mike Maina for residents woes.

In a video doing rounds on the web, an angry Sonko is heard hurling insults at Maina, threatening him and accusing him of allegedly making use of fake title deeds to acquire eviction notices from the court.

According to Sonko, Maina is the man behind the demolitions in Nyama Villa estate in Kayole, Nairobi that have left multiple families homeless and stranded.

The parking lot and the public toilets next to it are said to be built on land owned by Nairobi County’s Fire Station.

This comes a day after the government halted all demolitions throughout the country.

In response to Sonko, Maina said that, “I did not grab the land, I have genuine title deeds. It is very painful and unfair to harass and hurl insults at an innocent investor. Sonko should have instead come to the site and delivered to me the president’s instructions, which I would have obeyed.”
