Rains to lower temperatures from Friday, says Kenya’s Met service

NAIROBI: Lower temperatures are expected in most parts of the country beginning Friday, the weatherman has said.

A forecast report for the next seven days (from March 29th to April 4th) from the Meteorological Department indicates that high temperatures will subside at the end of the week due to the onset of the rainy season.

"Dry and sunny weather is expected over most parts of the country at the beginning of the forecast period. As the rains set in, the high temperatures observed are expected to cool down," the report said.

Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia counties are expected to experience sunny intervals in the morning until Thursday.

There will be morning rains over a few places from Friday to the end of the forecast period.

"Afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places on Wednesday and Thursday, increasing to several places to the end of the forecast period. Tuesday is expected to experience sunny intervals the whole day."

Turkana, West Pokot and Samburu counties are expected to experience mainly sunny intervals the whole day to Thursday. Thereafter, the report notes that, showers and thunderstorms over few places are expected in the afternoons/ evenings.

Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka counties are expected to experience sunny intervals the entire day to Thursday. Friday to the end of the forecast period is expected to experience rains over a few places in the morning giving way to sunny intervals then afternoon/evening showers over a few places.

North-eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will experience morning rains over a few places from Friday to the end of the forecast period and sunny intervals for the rest of the period.

However, South-eastern counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos and Taita Taveta are expected to experience cloudy mornings, giving way to sunny intervals at the start of the forecast period.

"Friday to Sunday are likely to receive morning rains over a few places. Afternoon/evening showers are expected over a few places from Thursday to the end of the forecast period," added the report.

In Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties it will be sunny during most of the forecast period.
