President Uhuru Kenyatta sends Lupita Nyong’o message ahead of possible Oscar win

Nairobi, Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday sent a congratulatory message to Lupita Nyong’o, a Kenyan actress, ahead of her possible Oscar win tonight. The message, which reads in part, “I join Millions of Kenyan and worldwide fans to congratulate and support Lupita Nyong’o as she confronts one of the biggest nights in her career so far,” has congratulated her on her role in promoting Black awareness through her role in the movie “12 years a slave”. President Uhuru Kenyatta reaffirmed his government’s commitment to promote Arts and Talent in Kenya.

Lupita Nyong’o’s parents are of Kenyan nationality but she was born in Mexico. She is nominated for the Best Supporting Actress in the Oscar Awards taking place on Sunday night.  This is the first Academy Award nomination for the Kenyan actress.
