Nyanza Golf Club will today host Western Caddies Competition.

This will be the second competition of the kind, after AAR Insurance company sponsored a similar tournament at the club in June.

"Unlike the first event which was restricted to Nyanza Club caddies only, tomorrow's (Monday's) tournament is open to all caddies from clubs including Kericho and Nandi Bears," said Evance Manono who will be cosponsoring the event with Jude Onyango

Manono (pictured) said the event aims at promoting caddies' involvement in the game of golf besides identifying talent among them.

"Caddies do a great role while guiding golfers during tournaments, golfers have excelled courtesy of the caddies who play well but have limited resources to enable them register for competitions," added Manono who is the AAR Insurance Western Kenya region manager.

The sponsors have promised caddies a full sponsorship to play the 2015 Kenya Golf Union Golfer of the Year events.

From Nyanza caddies to watch are Wycliffe Oketch, Moses Odindo and Francis Oriato. The Nyanza caddies will battle it out with Robert Ng'eno from Kericho, Nandi Bears' Nelson Kenzolo and Austin Muchaiwa from Kakamega.

Oketch said: "I'm happy that after a long period, Manono and Onyango have seen it wise to sponsor a caddies' tournament, some of us are great golfers but lack of funds has hindered our participation at big tournaments."
