AFC Leopards on Sunday slowed down Kakamega Homeboyz’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League title charge after defeating the title contenders 2-0 in the Ingoo Derby staged at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Collins Shivachi's header in the fourth minute and Kingsley Ojo Olaniyi's 57th minute strike was enough to hand Ingwe maximum points and derby bragging rights.

The defeat saw Benard Mwalala’s charges blow away the chance to go three points clear with two matches left with their closest rivals Tusker not in action this weekend.

Homeboyz are still tied with Tusker at the top of the league table on 57 points after 31 rounds of matches, but with the brewers boasting a superior goal difference of four goals.

Following the win, AFC Leopards moved to sixth on the log on 45 points.

The Kakamega based team must now defeat FC Talanta and Kariobangi Sharks in their next matches as they chase their maiden league title.

However, if Tusker also beat Bidco United and Posta Rangers in their last two matches, the 2021-2022 title champions be decided on goal difference.
