KPL: Kericho Zoo cage vicious Sharks in Nakuru

Goalkeeper Vincent Misikhu had a busy afternoon between the posts as he saved crucial shots for Kericho Zoo to bag maximum points in 1-0 victory against Kariobangi Sharks in a Kenyan Premier league match at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, yesterday.

The hawk-eyed Misikhu frustrated the efforts of Sharks’ forwards led by Sydney Lokale and Erick Kapaito in a match the slum boys should have scored at least two goals in the second half.

Having wasted three clear chances in the first two quarters, the all-important goal for the Kericho based side was scored in the 38th minute when Samuel Olwande unleashed a powerful volley from a foul past Sharks custodian John Oyombe.

That was the second loss in a row for the slums boys at the same venue after they fell by the same margin to defending champions Gor Mahia two weeks ago.

“We won thanks to our enviable teamwork and never lost concentration despite pressure from our opponents in the second half,” Kericho Zoo head coach Herman Isweha told Standard Sports.

Kariobangi Sharks pressed on in search of an equaliser and narrowly failed to do so when Kapaito’s well taken shot was disallowed for offside by referee Agneta Itubwa in the 77th minute.

Sensing danger, Sharks head coach William Muluya made four substitutions, which resulted in increased attacks, but failed to yield the required dividends.

Muluya rested Suen Yidah, Shaffan Oyugi and Erick Kapaito for Harrison Mwendwa, James Mazembe and Kevin Machika.

On their part, Zoo only made one change bringing in Sammy Gogola for David Aswani and resorted to defensive play.
