How Jay Jay Okocha overcame poverty to become a Superstar

Former Bolton star Jay-Jay Okocha may now be able to call himself a successful man in life but he has not always led such a gilded life.

The Nigerian grew up in poverty-stricken area where life was a struggle throughout his childhood.

In an interview with KTN's Betty Kyallo on #FridayBriefing, The 43-year-old revealed how his tough upbringing prepared him for the football world. 

“I grew up in a poor place, we would go to the pitch forget about the poverty - this helped my career that tough upbringing has paid off,’ he said.

Despite his tough upbringing, the former Bolton star also spoke about how he learned to handle himself in life which eventually earned him the fame and success.

“I used to be scared of failing at life, not leaving a mark or something to be remembered. It is important to put your best into everything you do; I played football with passion.  You must take a calculated risk if you want to stand out,’’ he added.
