Football Kenya Federation (FKF) women premier league zone B leaders Vihiga Queens coach Alex Alumira dreams of lifting their maiden silverware, after outclassing Oserian Ladies to book a play-off final against defending champions Zone A leaders Thika Queens.

A match between the two sides scheduled for February 4 at Afraha Stadium will determine the 2016 women premier league winner.

The Vihiga-based side finished the league with 31 points ahead of Oserian Ladies who managed 28 points, while Thika Queens finished the league with an unbeaten record with 32 points ahead of Spedag who managed 29 points.

“We have been preparing for two weeks and now and I can say the team is doing well as we prepare for the match against the defending champions.

This is the best performance we have had after we were promoted to the top league last season. I know Thika Quens is an experienced side but we are up to the task,” he told Feverpitch.

Thika Queen’s impressive run in the league gives them an upper hand over Vihiga Queens in this match and under the guidance of an experienced tactician Richard Kanyi will also come in handy.

Compared to the champions who have three of their players, Mary Kinuthia, Christine Nafula and Mercy Achieng, featuring for the women national football team, Harambee Starlets, Vihiga Queens has two players — upcoming goalkeeper Lilian Awour and Lilian Adera.

“Thika Queens has been in the league for many years compared to us but with good preparations, I know we are going to give them a challenge.

“I don’t have an experienced squad with a majority of the players in high school but their co-ordination and focus will enable us contain our opponents,” he said.

Thika Queens have been training for the second week now at BAT Thika Grounds in preparation for the final.

At the same time, the 2017-18 league kick off has been scheduled for March 4.
