Despite finishing the season without a trophy, Ulinzi Stars coach Robert Matano says the team will look back at their performance with pride as they focus on next season.

The soldiers were defeated 1-0 by Bandari during the GOtv shield match on Saturday, which saw them finish the season empty handed.

But Matano, who took over the reins last season, says the team will take a lot of positives despite their below par performance.

“Generally, we have had a good time with the club. From eighth-place finish in 2013 to fourth last season and second this year, it has been a great improvement and we need to build on this to do even better next year,” he said.

Matano’s two year contract with the soldiers expires next month. He further said they were just unlucky to have lost to Bandari on Saturday.

“We got a lot of chances, but none was converted. They only had one chance and scored and this is football. Sometimes you’re unlucky as we were,” he said.

Elsewhere, Bandari midfielder Anthony Kimani says he wants to help the club win the GOtv shield this year.

The former City Stars and Sofapaka midfielder has been on an good form since he joined the porters and was on Saturday named Man-of-the-match after his side defeated Ulinzi Stars 1-0.

Speaking afterwards, Kimani said; “We have had a great season and it would be great to end it with some silverware. After finishing fourth on the log, it would be great for us to go on and lift the GOtv shield title.”

“I am happy to have settled well since coming here. I feel really welcome and it has helped me to do well.”

Elsewhere, James Omondi is the new Muhoroni Youth coach. This follows an earlier confirmation that Ugandan Paul Nkata will be leaving the club at the end of the current campaign.

Nkata, who joined the team midseason, will join Tusker and club chairman Moses Adagala has confirmed Omondi, who served as Nkata’s assistant, will be elevated.

Adagala thanked Nkata for leading Muhoroni to a run of 14 unbeaten matches.
