Beryl Kaweru, a Karaoke host and events organiser in Mombasa, loves a bag that has room for essentials

By Wambui Thimba

What bag are you carrying today?

A white hobo with a stitching detail on the front.

What’s your handbag style?

Big and spacious.

How many bags do you have?

Eleven. I also have clutch purses in all colours except yellow and purple. I like carrying clutches when I’m going out at night or for an event.

What do you like about this bag?

The fact that I can throw in everything I need, especially when I’m going nowhere in particular.

Where did you buy it?

In Kampala.

Is that where you buy your bags?

Yes, Kampala has a variety of nice bags.

What do you think every girl in Mombasa should have in her bag?

Sunglasses.

What would you never leave the house without?

I never forget my phone.

What’s in your bag today?

Sunglasses, Samsung phone, charger, Safaricom modem, notebook, pen, pocket tissues, Fruity lip-gloss, Nivea body lotion, extra earrings, CD with photos from a recent event, One Million oil perfume, photos of my family members, a clutch purse, which serves as a make-up bag and sandals (I carry them when I’ve worn high-heels).
