Media personality Andrew Kibe has questioned gospel musician Eko Dydda’s decision to give his newborn daughter an unconventional name, raising concerns about how children with unusual names may relate with their peers as they grow up.

In a reaction shared on social media, Kibe appeared to take issue with the name chosen by the musician, asking, “Umeita mtoto jina gani?” before adding, “Kids has to grow up with other kids called real names.”

His remarks drew attention to Eko Dydda’s decision to name his daughter 5 Star Billions Increase Dydda, a choice that has attracted interest and discussion online.

However, the gospel musician has defended his naming choices, arguing that names carry power and should reflect the greatness parents envision for their children.

In an Instagram post shared on Wednesday, November 4, Eko said some parents shy away from giving their children ambitious names because they fear they may not live up to them.

"What I came to realise about the names is people are more afraid of calling their kids great names in fear of their failure, so they settle for normal names. They can call their businesses great names but not their children," he wrote.

The musician has also given his other children unconventional names, including Keep It Real and I Am Blessed, making his latest choice consistent with a naming pattern that has drawn public curiosity.

Eko also celebrated becoming a father to a girl, revealing that he had composed a song for his newborn daughter and asking fellow fathers to share advice on raising girls.

Kibe’s remarks have introduced a different perspective to the conversation, bringing into focus the question of whether distinctive names could affect children's experiences as they grow up.

While some parents favour traditional names rooted in family and cultural heritage, others choose distinctive names to reflect their beliefs, aspirations or personal values.

The exchange has renewed debate over parental freedom in naming children and whether unconventional choices could become a source of difficulty for children navigating school and social relationships.
