A Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidate who scored 404 marks says she could miss her Form One slot at Lugulu Girls in Western.

Faith Jepleting, 14, was optimistic of joining her dream school but her mother, a resident of Nandi North, cannot afford the fees. Her mother Susan Chelagat, a tea picker in Tinderet, told The Standard that unless well-wishers intervene, her daughter may fail to report to school.

“We have made several applications for sponsorship but we have not secured any. We tried Equity’s Wings to Fly, Kenya Commercial Bank and Jomo Kenyatta Foundation but failed,” said Chelagat, a mother of four.

Jepleting was a pupil at AIC Kipyonget Primary School. The family has failed to raise Sh22,500 required for the first term together with other requirements.

“I do menial jobs. My daughter stays with her grandmother in Kipkaren Nandi and I cannot even afford transport from Tinderet to where they are," she said.
