Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has told Deputy President William Ruto to stop taking credit for the government’s achievement, saying his office does not have a budget.

Munya who has had a frosty relationship with the DP from his days as Meru governor it was wrong to credit Ruto with Jubilee development achievements when he is not the Head of State.

Speaking in Tigania during public participation forum for the Coffee Bill 2020, the CS told the DP to stop attacking President Uhuru in political rallies yet still wants to claim projects started by the head of state.

"You cannot be someone’s principal assistant if all you do is to fight him in political rallies," the CS said.

Munya accused Ruto of politicking daily, while claiming to be working with President Uhuru Kenyatta to manage the country.

The CS asked Tangatanga MPs from Meru County to ditch DP Ruto and instead back President Uhuru to realise development.

The CS appealed to MPs John Mutunga (Tigania West), Josphat Gichunge (Tigania East) who have remained in Ruto’s camp exit.

He also made the same appeal to South Imenti’s Kathuri Murungi who has, at least publicly, not associated himself with either Tangatanga or Kieleweke wings.

Munya said the hustler narrative propagated by leaders in Ruto’s camp is not what the country needs to achieve its development targets but a bigger agenda like reforming the agriculture sector.

“To put money in the farmers’ pockets. Farmers do not need to be given the wheelbarrows.”

The CS dismissed Ruto’s claim that the people fronting the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) were playing tribal politics, saying the entire country endorsed the bill.

“He has been accusing BBI proponents of playing tribal politics. Yet we mobilised the entire country to endorse BBI.”
