MCA head butted head teacher over pit latrine contract

Kitui Member of the County Assembly allegedly pulled a primary school head teacher and head butted him leaving him bleeding profusely in the school compound.

Chuluni Ward Rep in Kitui East, James Mbuvi Kula alias Wangunze, has since been charged with the offence before Kitui Resident Magistrate Maurine Kimani and released on an Sh20,000 bond.

The MCA will be arraigned in court on Monday for the pre-trial to confirm whether the prosecution led by Bonny Okemwa has served him with witness’s statements and/or documents.

The Narc Ward Rep is accused of assaulting the Ithumula Primary School head teacher Lazarus Mwanzia Kimanzi and causing him bodily harm in Maluma Location, Nzambani District on November 30, last year.

The matter has dragged and failed to take off immediately after police at Nzambani Police Station appeared compromised and took prejudiced positions in the case.

Police dillydallied in arresting the MCA after the head teacher reported the matter on the same day under OB no. 07/30/11/2018.

In his statement, Mr Kimanzi recorded that the MCA hit him with the head at the school during a school’s board meeting which was convened to discuss how a contract to build a pit latrine was awarded to the leader without due process and procedures followed.

The head teacher recounted how the MCA pulled him and attacked him first with slaps before head butting him.

"I bled profusely from the injuries following the attack in view of the school committee officials including a county government official,” the teacher said.

The MCA was held by the school’s board of management chairman Philip Ngau and other parents from inflicting more harm to the teacher.

Mr Kula is represented in court by a lawyer, Alfonce Kilonzi, in the assault case.
