Members of the Embu County Assembly have impeached Deputy Speaker Steve Simba.

The ward reps passed a motion of no confidence on Wednesday evening, after eight accusations were levelled against him.

Mr Simba denied the charges, which included incompetence, arrogance, belittling his colleagues in public and on social media, abuse of office and unfairly profiling female MCAs.

The motion, moved by Nominated MCA Edna Muisyo, was supported by 30 out of 33 MCAs.

Efforts by the besieged deputy speaker to appeal for more time to enable him to procure legal services to defend himself were futile. Simba vowed to fight his ouster.
