Machakos county official charged with defiling girl

An employee of the county government has been charged with defiling an underage girl.

Paul Mutunga alias Kindawa denied the charge before Machakos Senior Resident Magistrate Irene Kahuya.

He is accused of defiling the girl on July 22, 2016, within the Machakos Level Five Hospital staff quarters.

The accused faced another charge of indecent act with a child contrary to section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act, which he also denied.

His lawyer J.Kyalo successfully applied for his release on bond, arguing his client was a law-abiding citizen.

Prosecutor Vincent Mamba did not oppose the bond so long as he abides by the terms.

FREED ON BOND

Kahuya released Mutunga on a Sh200,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh100,000 with a similar surety.

She fixed the hearing of the case on September 6, 2016 but the case will be mentioned on August 7, 2016.

The girl's grandmother caused a stir inside the court when she rose from her seat to hand over a protest note to the magistrate.

She later told The Standard that she wanted to tell the court that her life was in danger after strangers went to her house on Thursday night and repeatedly knocked on her door without saying anything.

She said she would report the matter to the police for investigations.
