Two held in Marakwet over suspected illegal gun possession

Two people have been arrested for suspected illegal possession of weapons among them an AK-47 in a sting operation led by officers from Tot Police Station in Marakwet East Sub County.

According to a report by the National Police Service, the two; Abraham Kiptum and Brandon Kilimo, were arrested at their home in Kaben Village, Marakwet where they were found with the weapons.

“After conducting a thorough search in his residence, the officers recovered the following items; 76 rounds of ammunition, seven empty magazines of AK-47, four empty magazines of G-3, one AK- 47 pouch and one side pouch,” reads part of the report.

Following the intelligence-led operation, the officers say they also found; 43 arrows, seven bows, three quivers, Furon 5GR (a banned industrial chemical) an Administration Police Service pullover and a green jungle trouser.

The authorities have lauded members of the public for being vigilant and passing information to the security apparatus terming it as the right direction in matters of community policing.

The two are being held at Tot Police Station as police conclude investigations.

Elsewhere, sleuths in Mombasa County are investigating an incident where a 15-year-old boy was murdered in cold blood the in Old Town area.

“The victim was stabbed in the neck by two youths who were riding a tuktuk that didn’t have registration plates. The victim succumbed to injuries moments later.” Mombasa sub-county police boss Joseph Ongaya said.

His body was found near Jadavji Goldsmith within the Old Town area with neighbours saying the boy was deaf and was a resident of Ganjoni Estate.

The body was taken to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
