Airlines seek Kenya's approval to launch flights

Several airlines have applied to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) for licences to offer air services in Kenya.

A majority of the airlines are keen to start flights to Mombasa and other coastal destinations like Ukunda, Malindi and Lamu.

KCAA Director General Gilbert Kibe, in gazette notice number 9320, dated November 3, 2016, said Polish airliner Enter Air Spolka Z.O.O based in Warsaw had applied for an inclusive tour charter on the route Warsaw-Larnaca-Mombasa.

"The airline intends to have two frequencies per week and shall be using aircraft type Boeing 738 for its flights," Mr Kibe said.

He said they had also received an application from Air France Cargo who are keen on starting international non-scheduled all-cargo air services on the Paris/Djibouti/St Denis/Antananarivo/ Nairobi and Paris/Cairo/St Denis/Antananarivo, Nairobi/Paris routes.

Another international cargo airliner Martinair Holland NV based in the Netherlands wants to start non-scheduled all-cargo services on the Amsterdam-Nairobi- Amsterdam route.

Kenya Homes Company Ltd dba Timbis Air Services applied for a licence for domestic scheduled air service originating from both JKIA and Wilson in Nairobi to Homa Bay, Ukunda, Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu Eldoret, Lodwar and the Mara.
