Two police officers linked to Pastor Ng'ang’a fatal accident arrested

 Nairobi, Kenya: Two police officers linked to the pastor James Ng'anga’s Limuru crash have been arrested.

The two spent their nights in police custody on Wednesday and were expected to take plea in court on Thursday.

Pastor Ng’ang’a of Neno Evangelism was too expected in court Thursday in Limuru to face four charges relating to a fatal crash in Limuru last month. Nganga spent his night at the Gigiri police station after police declined to grant him cash bail.

Two senior police officers based at Tigoni police station and police airwing Patrick Baya and Christopher Nzilu Nzioka respectively will be charged with conspiracy to defeat justice alongside Ng’ang’a

The two spent their nights at the Muthangari and Muthaiga police stations respectively.

Simon Kuria who presented himself as the driver of the Range Rover that caused the accident a day after it had happened was also arrested and spent the night on Wednesday in police custody. Kuria will be charged with giving false information

Nganga will face four charges including causing death by dangerous driving.

Further Ng’ang’a will be charged with giving false information to a person employed in the Public Service, failing to report an accident as per the law and conspiracy to defeat justice.

The move followed investigations and recommendations by police into an accident in which Ms Mercy Njeri, 38 died while her husband Martin Mbugua Ndung’u survived with injuries on July 26 at Manguo area in Limuru.

Nzioka and Baya will get further charges of neglect of official duty contrary to the Penal Code.

Ng’ang’a was arrested outside Serena Hotel as he tried to evade police dragnet and held at Traffic headquarters briefly before being moved to Gigiri police cells where he spent. Police refused to give him bail despite pleas from his lawyers Assa Nyakundi, Cliff Ombeta and his family.

The move by police followed a directive by the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko that he be charged with at least four charges including causing death by dangerous driving.

The DPP gave the directions following investigations and recommendations by police into an accident in which Ms Mercy Njeri, 38 died while her husband Martin Mbugua Ndung’u survived with injuries on July 26 at Manguo area in Limuru.

Police recommended that Ndung’u be charged with permitting a person to drive a motor vehicle on the road without a valid provisional licence and giving false information.
