Standard Three Kenyan pupil in Moyale married off

A Standard Three pupil was married off in Moyale immediately after schools closed for August holidays. The pupil of Bori Primary School was forced into early marriage on August 6.

Moyale District Education Officer Galma Golicha said the victim and individuals behind the illegal act crossed over to Ethiopia to evade arrest.

"The matter has been reported to us and we are pursuing it," he said, adding that the government will not tolerate early marriages involving pupils.

Bori residents have appealed to the government to take action against individuals behind early marriage. Moyale Assistant Deputy County Commissioner John Kipsiwa said they are aware of the pupil's case and warned against early marriage.
