Police in Kilgoris are holding a man who was arrested for being in possession of 179 rounds of ammunition.

The man was arrested at Lolgorian in Trans Mara West District on a boda boda heading to Kilgoris.

According to the area OCPD, Johnston Ipara, the assortment was destined for Osupuko in the neighbouring Narok South District where the suspect claimed he was delivering to someone.

Ipara said the suspect had no gun and upon interrogation he said he was ‘just passing over the items to the consignee’.

Ipara said officers from the Criminal Investigation Department have been sent to the area to carry out further investigations.

“We are still withholding the suspect as we await the officers to come back with some information which might be of help in launching a case in court. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court tomorrow,” said Ipara.

The officer further warned boda boda operators to be more careful of strangers who seek their services saying they risk ferrying criminals.

“We appeal to the operators to take time and interrogate clients whom they become suspicious of rather than rushing for money and end up being murdered,” warned Ipara.

Meanwhile, Mumias District Commissioner Francis Komen has warned fake surveyors operating in the area they would be arrested.

The administrator expressed concern over rising complaints from residents who have been conned by the fraudsters.

“We have received information there are surveyors who are actually quacks stealing from people. We are not going to allow this to continue and we are looking for them,” stated Komen. The DC urged the public to give information to law enforcers to ensure the criminals are arrested.

He also warned of rising prostitution vowing to crack whip on brothels operating in the town. Komen was speaking in Mumias during an inauguration ceremony for chiefs and their assistants.
