Senior managers at Kenya Ports Authority promoted in changes

Several senior managers at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) have been promoted to take over positions left vacant after a purge in February.

During the purge, KPA Managing Director Gichiri Ndua and others were sacked or retired by the board.

Ndua’s post was filled by Catherine Mturi Wairi in acting capacity. Before the purge, she was the general manager at the port in charge of finance.

Patrick Nyoike, who was promoted to act in her post, has not been confirmed, pending the employment of a substantive office holder.

Those promoted include Abdirahman Ahmed, who is now the head of container terminal operations after the previous holder, Sudi Mwasinago, was confirmed the general manager for operations in February.

Sudi replaced Captain Twalib Khamisi who exited during the February changes.

Acting KPA Managing Director Catherine Mturi-Wairi confirmed the internal promotions.

The Standard has established that the board has already conducted interviews for the MD’s post. Interviews for the general manager for finance have not been done.

Post fell vacant

Ms Miriam Mwakundia Kiringi is now head of marketing. The post fell vacant after Edward Kamau was named general manager for corporate affairs after Justus Nyarandi, the former holder, was fired.

Former Principal Human Resource Development Officer Boaz Ouko is now head of human resource after the post fell vacant when its holder Amani Komora was made general manager, human resource and administration, in February. Komora replaced Salim Chingabwe, who took early retirement before the purge.

Head of Marine Operations is now Captain William Ruto, who also emerged the best candidate out of those who applied for the post. He has taken over from Captain John Nguyo, who has been acting after Captain Adnand Bonafa retired.

Rashid Salim is head of marine engineering after replacing Okwi Injiramani, who retired in 2015.

Former Principal Legal Officer Michael Sangoro has been promoted to head of conveyancing and contracts, taking up a position left vacant by Ms Addraya Dena in February after she became general manager, board and legal services, following the removal of Catherine Muthoni Gatere four months ago.
