The county assembly has summoned officials from the county Treasury to shed light on expenditure of Sh25 million set aside as emergency fund.

Members of the assembly's Committee on Disaster Management wrote to Finance Executive Peter Ketyenya, who was recently moved to the Trade docket, to appear before them on April 25.

“Following your response to our request to furnish the committee with details of expenditure of Sh25 million from the emergency kitty, you are hereby required to appear before this committee on April 25 for further deliberations on the subject matter,” the summon read.

Committee chairman Karanja Mburu, who is also the Lake View MCA, told The Standard members wanted to understand how the funds were used.

According to documents seen by The Standard, the Treasury, during the 2017/18 financial year, spent most of the money on allowances during various disasters, among them the Solai Dam tragedy that claimed 48 lives and the Lake Nakuru chopper crash that killed five.

On October 24, 2017, Sh330,000 was released as allowances for search and rescue crew operations at the lake.
