Nyandarua, Kenya: The local government has denied claims that it refused to allow the installation of fibre optic cables. According to ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru, Nyandarua, Kwale and Kajiado did not allow the cables to be laid in their territories.

The CS has warned that the counties “will be left behind in technology” as a result. Yesterday, Governor Daniel Waithaka (pictured) said that the county was erroneously mentioned and accused the ICT ministry of not consulting his government for clarification.

He said the county had allowed the cables to be installed. “Contrary to the assertions which are outrightly malicious, Nyandarua County allowed the laying of the cable without charging a single coin.”
