Kirinyaga residents welcome Anne Waiguru's resignation

Kirinyaga, Kenya: Residents of Gichugu constituency, Kirinyaga County, have welcomed the resignation of Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

But even as they accepted the bitter reality, they insisted that Waiguru’s replacement should come from the area. Led by their MP Njogu Barua, the residents said her resignation should not be seen as a sign of cowardice but that of a true patriot and a respectable family person.

“Ms Waiguru is our daughter and the decision she has made is welcomed by us all, but it should be noted that her now vacant position should be filled by a person from our constituency,’’ Mr Barua said.

The residents said they will not take things lying down as they did when former National Intelligence Service Director General Michael Gichangi, who was also from Gichugu, resigned and his place was taken over by someone from outside Kirinyaga.

“This time round we will not accept to be short-changed for when Inspector General David Kimaiyo resigned, he was replaced by Joseph Boinnet who is from Kimaiyo’s home area for regional balancing,” said Barua.
