Consulting firm Deloitte and technology company, Oracle, have partnered to improve the privacy and security of their clients’ systems

The move follows increasing reports of hacking since the entry of fibre-optic cables in Kenya.

The solution — called Oracle Security Stack (OSS) — is aimed at enhancing information security management in financial organisations by providing additional data security management tools in the wake of the emerging threat.

Muchemi Wambugu, Deloitte’s Consulting Director of Technology said the financial sector was concerned on finding ways to mitigate against data loss, information leakage and identity theft.

Human error

"Contrary to popular belief, most of the breaches are caused by internal human errors or omissions, followed by failures in technology and finally operation systems and processes," said Mr Wambugu.

"The importance of having well thought out internal controls, trained people and tools that are specialised in mitigating these risks, cannot be over emphasized," he added.

OSS has an integrated solution that focuses on Data Base Vault, Audit Vault and Identity Management Access Suit.

Deloitte said the database vault increases the security of existing applications and enhances data integrity — that is data having a complete or whole structure — and increases privacy by safeguarding data and preventing ad-hoc access to application data.

The Audit Vault, on the other hand, automates audit collection; monitoring and reporting process, turning audit data into a key security resource for detecting un-authorised activity.
